Crop Farming
The Alberta Way of Life
Wheatfield
Of the 52 million acres of land in Alberta used for agricultural production, 27 million acres are in crops and summer fallow, 22 million acres are pasture land and 3 million acres for other agricultural production.
The main crops are wheat, barley, canola, peas + alfalfa – timothy hay and seed potatoes.
Timothy Hay
The world’s best timothy hay growing areas can be found in the “foothills” on the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains.
This beautiful, natural environment produces the most pure, low nitrate, most palatable and highest fiber containing timothy hay in North America.
This product is shipped to Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam and China. Growing timothy hay fits well with most crop rotation schemes. Alberta supplies more and more of this product to the Asian market.
